Racy in red: Christina Aguilera wore a daring pair of hotpants as she performed on the Today Show in New York this morning

Christina Aguilera rocks in a pair of tiny, red hot pants - but someone should sack her make-up artist.

The Dirrty singer was performing on the Today Show earlier in New York and while she made sure her outfit made the most of her assets, her wonky lipstick and wild hair did nothing for her look.

High note: The singer really belted it out as she strutted around on stage

Her sparkling tights and sky high Louboutins certainly showed off her shapely legs but her heavy make-up added years to the 29-year-old mother.

Christina has been hit by a run of bad publicity recently and has been compared unfavourably to rival Lady Gaga and accused of ripping off her act.

She was forced to release a statement on her website which read: 'It is very easy for comments to be taken out of context and create unnecessary drama - especially between us women.

Painted lady: The star's make-up looked too heavy and her hair appeared frazzled

'I have absolutely nothing against Lady Gaga or any other female artist in this business.'

And last month she was forced to postpone her summer tour because she needed more time to rehearse.Fans will be hoping she is getting back to her best with the release of her latest single Not Myself Tonight which she performed on Sunday at the MTV Music Awards

Speaking at the awards show in Los Angeles, she of having to postpone her tour, she said: 'I put on a big show. I create sets, costumes. There's major choreography and dance numbers.

Quick change: Christina was latter spotted wearing a pair of beige tights with a black design

'All of that goes along with a huge production. And I started to feel this is not the right time. It'll be a much better and bigger show when I have time to properly plan.'

But if the bad press is worrying her, she isn't letting it get to her.

In what appears to be a message to her detractors on Sunday night she wore a t-shit with the words 'And f you don't like it. F*** You!'
