Lovely Lively: Blake turned out for the red carpet premiere of her new film The Town in Boston last night

She famously plays an over-privileged New York teen in the TV hit Gossip Girl, but Blake Lively has graduated to a Hollywood silver screen star.

And the 23-year-old didn't disappoint as she turned out for the red carpet premiere of her new film The Town in Boston last night.

She looked a picture of A-list style in a figure-hugging black dressed that featured lace detailing.

Her co-star in the film, Ben Affleck, also turned out for the occasion.

In the movie, Blake plays a drug-dealing single mother called Krista Coughlin, while Affleck plays her ex-boyfriend - who also happens to be a bank robber wanted by the FBI.

Mad Men's John Hamm meanwhile plays an FBI agent on Affleck's trail.

However, despite her high profile, Blake revealed she had to audition for the role.

She explained: 'I play a drug-dealing townie from Boston who's on welfare - a really dark, interesting character.

Get the gossip: The actress chatted to the press about her big screen role

'I auditioned for Ben and had to fight for that role and prove myself - he gave me the job on the spot. Do I'm going to be really spoiled if I don't get a job on the spot after this!'

Meanwhile, Blake recently talked to Allure magazine about her job insecurities and her ambitions outside of acting including owning a restaurant and making lots of babies.

The Gossip Girl star opened up about her insecurities surrounding her acting ability.

'You make your mistakes on a bigger screen for everyone to see,' she said.

'I’d look at what we shot on a day and it was like, "Oh, gosh, I’m terrible."'

But this didn't stop her from fighting for her role in her new film The Town, directed by Ben Affleck.

Dark side: Blake plays a drug dealer in the film, which also stars (from left) Chris Cooper, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner

'This part was originally supposed to be for a 37-year-old woman—she’s a mother—but when I read the script, I knew I had to have the part,' she claimed.

'It was selfish of me. I worried I would ruin it for other people. But I had to try it.'

In the film, which is officially released this weekend, Blake plays a 29-year old single mom struggling with addiction who's ex-boyfriend (played by Affleck) is a Boston based bank robber wanted by the FBI.

However motivated she is in her current career, the actress has other ambitions in life including opening a restaurant.

I've arrived! Affleck plays a Boston-based bank robber wanted by the FBI

'I want to have a brunch place, a bakery, and a Southern restaurant—because my family’s from Georgia—and then I want a place that is all-over-the-world cuisine.'

'I take a cooking class everywhere I travel. I find it’s the best way to get to know a culture. It’s what people bring to the family every day, what they break bread over—it’s a very intimate thing.'

Blake is more coy about her relationship with Gossip Girl co-star and childhood friend Penn Badgely.

'Yeah, I don’t comment on my relationships, so you can skin that one! My anonymity is something I treasure. Wanting to be an actor and wanting to be famous are different.'
When asked about her future all she would say is: 'I want babies. Lots of babies. Of course!'

The Town, which has had rave reviews so far from critics, opens in UK cinemas on 24 September.
